Fabienne and I are preparing to roll out Seesaw for the CP class. This means there will be fewer photos on the blog, as you will be able to access them on your child's Seesaw account instead. I will put a few photos to highlight activities and continue to post videos and links to games and activities on the blog, so that it can be used as a tool to review and extend children's learning, rather than a record of it.
We have continued to speed through the phonic sounds, both classes have finished group 5.
Next week, we will finish reviewing group 6 and then every child will be taking a class reader home with them daily.
In numbers, we have been looking at how to find numbers on a hundred square. As an introduction to place value, I have explained that numbers have places - a units place and a tens place. In order to find a number on the hundred square, they must go down the vertical columns to locate the tens they are looking for and then move horizontally to find the unit.
In Questioning the World, we've been working on a map of the school.
In Art, we're drawing self-portraits ( more art photos on children's individual seesaw accounts - coming soon!)
Now that tomorrow is a typhoon day, why not catch up on Studyladder - there are hundreds of set tasks on there, all directly related to what we are learning in class.
Starting with the belated CP1 studyladder certificate photo from last week
In phonics, we've finished off the fourth group of Jolly Phonics sounds!
We've been focusing on the 5 vowels - A, E, I, O, U Making sure that everyone knows the names of the vowels and how to make their short sounds /a/ /e/ /i/ /o/ /u/. We have learnt some of the long vowel sounds and are trying to remember that when two vowels come together, we say the name of the first vowel, while the second one says nothing - so far we have learnt /ai/ /ee/ /ie/ and /oa/.
There will be /ai/ words to read for homework for CP2 on Wednesday and next Tuesday for CP1 (mistake on this week's CP2 homework).
There are plenty of phonics related activities on studyladder - set tasks, where you will also find number practice up to 100.
We use studyladder in class, with each child being allowed to do 3 set tasks per day, parents are also welcome to have their children practise at home - see the back of the correspondence book for details.
